About CodeBlue

CodeBlue is a web-based information management system, which stores all the data and recommendations from aquatic risk assessments conducted throughout New Zealand.

Assessments to Date

The assessment programmes to date include

  • Surf Life Saving New Zealand’s (SLSNZ) Coastal Public Safety Assessment (CPSA) which investigates the risk of drowning and injury on the coast.
  • A combined SLSNZ and Coastguard New Zealand (CNZ) Marine Risk Assessment (MRA) which evaluates the risk drowning and injury in inland coastal waterways and the connecting outlet to the ocean. This assessment specifically focuses on the risk to vessel operators and their occupants.
Further risk assessment programmes will be integrated into CodeBlue in the future.

Collaboration

As an information management system CodeBlue will encourage collaboration between water safety stakeholders. CodeBlue is designed to be the central point from which water safety stakeholders can access information on existing risk at specific aquatic locations and the associated safety measures. A wide range of other data is also stored on this database including information on the facilities and services around the aquatic environment.

Our Thanks

The risk assessment programmes have been supported by the Accident Compensation Corporation. We would like to acknowledge their support in helping prevent drowning and injury in New Zealand.
